Body and Stamping: Machine Safety

Challenge

As an EV manufacturer, you are looking toward a dynamic, fast-moving future, one in which flexibility, efficiency and safety must reign supreme — all while being adaptable to shifting trends, demands and regulations across the industry. While streamlining and automating production must remain a priority, you also need to keep worker safety at the forefront of your development strategy. This is particularly true during stages where there are many manual processes, such as final assembly. In an era where you must strive to predict an unpredictable future, it’s important to partner with a proven industry through leader that can guide you toward your safety and performance goals.

Solution

The key to enhancing machine safety is to invest in industrial safety solutions that protect your employees without disrupting machine operations or increasing operational costs. Omron offers intelligent safety devices, flexible configurations and visualization technologies that strengthen your safety measures while streamlining the production process. Engineered to meet the needs of tomorrow and to exceed the expectations of your employees, our versatile safety solutions will transform your EV manufacturing operations.

Powertrains: Material Handling

Challenge

Developing the type of vigorous EV manufacturing facility that is needed to address the demands of the future requires you to evaluate the role of machine operators within your organization. Rather than requiring your machine operators to complete repetitive tasks throughout their shift, you will want to provide them with highly-skilled opportunities that allow them to advance. At the same time, you will need to automate your material handling processes to increase production speed and output.

Omron has envisioned an EV manufacturing world in which humans and robotics technologies work seamlessly together. Our collaborative robots can manage repetitive, complex assembly tasks while working alongside employees who offer that necessary human touch. Our customized robotics solutions will boost the speed and precision of material handling at your facility.

Solution

At Omron, we have recently introduced a line of trailblazing robots, known as the Omron Mobile Manipulators, or MoMas. By blending the functionality of a collaborative robot with the versatility of a mobile robot, MoMas offer total flexibility in handling and operational mobility. This new breed of robot has the capability of lifting product, placing it on the payload and autonomously traveling to various locations in your facility.

Weld: Machine Tending

Challenge

Rapid changes in consumer demand and trends

Flexibility in machine tending is crucial in automotive manufacturing for several reasons. Firstly, the automotive industry experiences changing consumer demands and market trends. Being able to quickly adapt to these changes is necessary to meet customer requirements and stay competitive. Flexibility allows manufacturers to efficiently switch between different product models and variations, enabling them to produce vehicles based on current market demands.

Solution

Mobile Manipulator robots revolutionize industrial work

Combining the collaborative capabilities of a robot with the mobility of a mobile platform Omron Mobile Manipulators, or MoMas, bring unparalleled flexibility in handling operations and operational mobility. These innovative robots can effortlessly lift products, place them on the payload, and autonomously navigate to different areas within your facility. With the introduction of MoMas, Omron offers a new generation of robots that revolutionize the way tasks are performed in industrial settings.

Paint: Color Matching

Challenge

Inconsistent lighting, varied surfaces and human error

One of the primary challenges is dealing with color variation due to variations in paint batches, production conditions and surface textures. Inconsistent lighting conditions can also affect color perception and make it difficult to achieve consistent color matches. Surface imperfections on bumpers and fenders, such as scratches or dents, can further complicate the color detection and matching process. Additionally, human error and subjective color perception can introduce inconsistencies in color matching.

Solution

Real-color processing for high-speed, human-level matching

Omron’s FH Series vision system is a compact yet powerful solution for advanced quality inspection, identification and positioning applications. With top-of-the-line sensing and processing capabilities, the vision system is designed to maximize production line performance and flexibility by matching and exceeding the sensitivity of human vision. Real-color processing is an image processing technology that performs high-speed processing of full-color images with a total of 16.7 million colors (256 tones per RGB channel). This means that image processing can be performed with the same color information that is visible to the human eye, and stable measurements can be performed under lighting that closely resembles natural light.

Final Assembly: Traceability

Challenge

Capturing each step of the assembly process is necessary to create high-quality, well-functioning parts and vehicles, but traceability applications in departments like paint and final assembly are notorious for being cumbersome and challenging. By investing in solutions that rely on RFID technology to exchange data, you will enjoy a seamless process for parts delivery between tier suppliers and the automotive manufacturer.

Solution

The result of years of investment in RFID technology and automation solutions has allowed Omron to offer the most highly-functional, integrated RFID system for traceability during final assembly. Industry-leading features such as “focus” mode and “automatic power tuning” maximize read rates and minimize misreads. In addition, you will discover setup and diagnostic tools that make it easy to implement this technology into your final assembly process.

Digitization: IIoT

Real-time visibility into product and process data, powered by Sysmac

Omron’s Sysmac platform makes it easy to gather quality data from machines on the plant floor and make it available for IIoT applications. It also helps eliminate excess middleware and PCs on the plant floor to save costs and keep networks secure.

Sysmac Software

Sysmac Studio is a unique environment that integrates logic, motion and drives, robotics, safety, visualization, sensing and information technologies in a single project, thus reducing the learning curve and the intra-operative software costs.
