This course will provide the learner, through classroom and lab exercises, with a skill level sufficient to correctly maintain machine safeguarding devices and safety controls to meet the safety standard requirements.

Upon successful completion of the class and receiving a passing grade on the exam, students will receive a Functional Safety Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate and be registered as a FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland)

More About The Certification

Grow your team’s confidence with much-needed skills
With TUV Rheinland certification, you can give your team the confidence they need to work with safety
products and their corresponding applications. Participants will learn how to maintain machine safeguarding
devices and safety-related controls to meet standard requirements.
Coursework will cover the following topics:
•General safety concepts
•Advantages and disadvantages of various safety components
• Validation of operation for common safety components
• Safe distance calculation
•Maintenance and repair of safety systems
•“Safe” modification of existing systems for temporary situations
Training will encompass 2.5 days with an exam at the end. Successful students will receive TUV Rheinland
Certification as a FS Technician and will be listed on the TUV Rheinland Certipedia.

Rex Keihl is a Certified Functional Safety Expert and an Automation training leader at The Omron Corporation, responsible for educating and assisting customers in the application and integration of safety automation products into their processes. He has a strong and diverse background history for over 30 years in the industrial automation helping design and improve processes utilizing the latest industrial products as they become available for use. He has a degree in applied management, electrical engineering, and has been an instructor at Wright State University in addition to being certified under TÜV (Reinland) as one of a few Functional Experts of today ( FS Expert #310/2021 Machinery). He also sits on several ANSI B11 standard committees and participates on the ISO TC199 WG-6 international standard committee for guarding designs. Keihl builds rapport with diverse audiences and helps them gain the mastery of standards and regulations while simplifying the complicated world of the safety with automated control needed to make impactful change in their facilities.
